Local Highways Improvements - Let us Know Your Ideas!

Soham Town Council is looking for ideas to submit to Cambridgeshire County Council under the Local Highways Improvement (LHI) scheme that runs each year between the end of October and mid-January the following year.

LHIs can seek to address problems such as:

  • Anti-social driving including speeding and Illegal or dangerous parking
  • Cycling or walking improvements
  • Pedestrian crossings or other route management improvements

Examples of the type of projects that have been approved can be found here: Local Highway Improvement Delivery Programme (external link)

Information on the application process, scoring criteria and more can be found here: Local Highway Improvement Funding (external link)

Please note that valid applications are scored against a set of criteria, and then against other applications across Cambridgeshire. Only one application is allowed per town or parish area per year. To assist the process, and add weight to your idea, we ask that you report any anti-social driving issues to the police using the Report It link here: Report a road traffic incident (external link) and obtain a crime reference number. Please include this crime reference number when you submit your idea  to us for a LHI. Without this we may be unable to take your idea forward.

Only the highest scoring applications will be successful, so there is no guarantee any will be chosen by County Council Highways. As any application must also be prepared to contribute a minimum of 10% of the total cost of the scheme if successful it will need to be voted on by Soham Town Council to get their support for this financial contribution.

Do you have any suggestions for improvements to the highway in your area?

If you do then please submit them for the attention of Cllr Keith Horgan, c/o Soham Town Council via the contact form on our website: Contact Us
